Foreign Policy 101

By Paul Davis | 01.19.07

Stumbled across this link on Myspace, where Internet stupidity goes to metastasize. A blog post like this goes a long way in explaining not only the “Average Joe“‘s view on foreign policy but attitudes about the rest of the world/developing nations (i.e., breeding ground for potential servants?)

From JoeUser.com: “I Can Use a Full-Time House keeper“(sic)

Highlights:

I can’t afford to hire a full time house keeper even at the old min. wage. That is more than $1500 a month including all SS and other benefits. I cant afford that. Would any American citizen work for less than that. anyone? even a lousy house-keeper?”

Let’s just ruminate on this, shall we? $1500 a month for a “lousy house-keeper?” The indignation here is palpable…’can’t hire Americans, they won’t work for less than $1500!’ Has this author any context of what a paltry sum of money $1500 a month is nowadays? Plenty of people would love to pull in $1500 a month, including many of his/her fellow retirees, who are making less than that on Social Security.

“but I know for sure that many people from other less fortunate countries would be more than happy to do it as live-ins for no more than $200 a month Plus room and board of course. Why can’t we do that here in our own country?”

Well, shit, I’m sure that foreigner would be more than happy pulling in barely enough to afford daily necessities…or is that considered part of “room and board”? If I’m not mistaken, there were some ephemeral laws put on the book with regard to slavery and indentured servitude. Just sayin’.

Anyway, if you’re looking for some real illuminating discourse, I recommend a trip over to JoeUser.com to catch some folks just shootin’ from the hip and solving the nation’s problems one rant about the minimum wage at a time!
