Facing the Music

By Paul Davis | 02.05.07

Fascinating article in New York Magazine equating the future of the music industry with the book publishing industry: Facing The Music

"Now, though, another reversal, of similar commercial and metaphysical magnitude, is taking place. Not, of course, that the book
business is becoming rock and roll, but that the music industry is becoming, in size and profit margins and stature, the book business."

Via this discussion on Metafilter, in which one of the commenters makes an observation I noticed recently poring over old issues of Punk Planet from five or six years ago: For all of the talk that mp3's are going to destroy the music industry as of yesterday, it seems that we've been reading the same article about the subject for about seven years now.
