Bringing In The Reinforcements

By Paul M Davis | 11.21.07

bringing up the rearYou may notice some changes around here. They’re gradual, but happening. The most obvious right now are a few design and presentation tweaks.

But these aren’t the big changes. There’s much more interesting changes to come, beginning next week, including:

First off, I’ve invited a handful of talented, brilliant, funny writers and thinkers to begin contributing to Is > Than, and some of these writers will be turning up beginning Monday. I’ve never been too enamored with the individual blog format or the single-topic blog, and this is the first step in the direction of a far more magazine-ish format. You’ll see far more magazine-type content in the next few weeks — features, interviews, and in-depth blog posts and essays.

The scope will be widening. As more people enter the stew, the focus will become less music-centric, which has always been the intention. Less short posts, more in-depth pieces. Some short fiction, some independent-minded analysis of mass culture. More features and Q & A’s, and a lot of new voices and ideas.

There’s a number of other things percolating, but it’s too early to talk about those yet — but once again I say, thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy what’s in store.

One last note: yes, I’m aware that technically the title says “is is greater than than”. From a grammatical point of view, it’s terrible, but from a pure visibility perspective, it works better than a symbol. I’m certainly open to suggestions of other ways of dynamically representing the site’s title. Maybe a contest is in order?
Thanks for reading. I love to hear feedback, and especially ideas for submissions: isgreaterthan -at- gmail.com
