As part of Is Greater Than’s efforts to catalog reactions to President-Elect Obama’s extraordinary candidacy, we present the following poem by a 12-year-old child of Brooklyn.
Just beyond the horizon,
A golden streak pierces the sky,
Spreading like wildfire
among the weakening night.
It began as a mere speck,
In the vast ocean of blue,
Struggling to be free of its star-shaped shackles,
The inevitable truth
was that it would be devoured,
For how,
Could this little soul survive.
Yet,
This speck could not be stopped,
The will to thrive,
Even among the mightiest foe,
Is a force that no being,
Neither man nor beast,
Could hope to stop
from the ultimate perfection.
Just beyond the horizon,
A golden streak pierces the sky,
Spreading like wildfire
among the weakening night.
